About the Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery or VATS Procedure

VATS surgery

You will be given general anesthesia before performing VATS so that you are fast asleep and you can’t feel any pain during the procedure. After you are asleep, some small incisions are made in your chest area and the thoracoscope is inserted, along with that some other small instruments are inserted through other small incisions. The required procedure is performed (such as drainage of fluid from the lung cavity) and the camera and instruments are taken out. The incision is closed with surgical glue and a bandage is applied to it. The patient is then sent to the recovery room.
