Our British radiologist brother-in-law Dr. Shakeel Farooqui ji gave information about Dr. Sumeet Shah ji, the famous surgeon of Delhi. On 13 September 2021, we reached Pushpavati Singhania Research Institute, Saket, New Delhi with Ammi. Ammi was very weak and in pain after being in the hospital for so many days, almost unable to eat or drink and skin allergies. Dr. Sumeet sir assured us that your mother is better otherwise but due to weakness she will be able to undergo surgery to remove her gall bladder after four weeks! We reached PSRI again on 19th October 2021 in consultation with Dr. Sumeet Shah sir. Dr. Sir told that the surgery will be done in two parts and due to old age the risk will be very high so if laparoscopic method does not work then gall bladder will have to be removed by incision then blood transfusion may also be necessary; This would also be additional risk.

However, Dr. Sir explained that since we no longer have the option to postpone the surgery, we will take this risk with all the hope, faith and caution!

On 20 October 2021 Dr. Nripen Saikia’s team performed the initial surgery which was very simple and a stent was implanted.

On 21 October 2021, Dr. Sumeet Shah’s team performed the main surgery to remove gall bladder. Dr. Sumeet sir’s experience and skill made laparoscopic surgery work! Yes, the pain got worse and the allergies started again!
Dr. Sir assured that all is well and will gradually get better. Will come to get the stent removed after four weeks!

During the next four weeks, Dr. Sumeet Sir himself kept taking news of Ammi’s skill, giving encouragement and guidance!

हमारे ब्रिटेनवासी रेडियोलॉजिस्ट बहनोई डॉ. शकील फ़रूक़ी जी ने दिल्ली के विख्यात सर्जन डॉ. सुमीत शाह जी के बारे में जानकारी दी। 13 सितंबर 2021 को हम लोग अम्मी को लेकर उनके पास पुष्पावती सिंघानिया रिसर्च इंस्टीट्यूट, साकेत, नई दिल्ली पहुंचे। इतने दिन अस्पताल में रहने से, लगभग कुछ ना खा-पी सकने से और त्वचा की एलर्जी से अम्मी बेहद कमज़ोरी और पीड़ा में थीं। डॉ. सुमीत सर ने हम लोगों को आश्वस्त किया कि आपकी माताजी अन्यथा तो बेहतर हैं परंतु दुर्बलता के चलते चार सप्ताह बाद इनके पित्ताशय को निकालने हेतु सर्जरी कर सकेंगे! उन्होंने मेडिसिन और स्किन के विशेषज्ञों से परामर्श करवाकर इलाज शुरू कर दिया।
18 सितंबर को हम ग्वालियर वापस आए और विशेषकर स्किन की एलर्जी ने; जीवन में पहली बार अम्मी के हौसले और जिजीविषा को तोड़-सा दिया।
डॉ. सुमीत शाह सर के परामर्श से हम 19 अक्टूबर 2021 को पुनः PSRI पहुंचे। डॉ. सर ने बताया कि सर्जरी दो हिस्सों में होगी और वृद्धावस्था के चलते जोखिम बहुत अधिक होगा इसलिए अगर लैप्रोस्कोपिक पद्धति से बात नहीं बनी तो चीरा लगाकर पित्ताशय निकालना होगा तब रक्त चढ़ाने की भी अनिवार्यता आ सकती है; यह भी अतिरिक्त जोखिम होगा।
( एक बड़ा जोखिम यह भी इस समय में है कि अम्मी को कोविड-19 के विरुद्ध सुरक्षा के लिए वैक्सीन भी; एलर्जी की वजह से चिकित्सकों ने नहीं देने का परामर्श दिया है!)

बहरहाल डॉ. सर ने समझाया कि क्योंकि सर्जरी टालने का विकल्प हमारे पास अब नहीं है इसलिए पूरी आशा, विश्वास और सावधानी रखते हुए, हम यह जोखिम लेंगे ही!

20 अक्टूबर 2021 को डॉ. नृपेन सैकिया जी की टीम ने प्रारंभिक सर्जरी की जो बहुत सरलता से संपन्न हुई और एक स्टेंट प्रत्यारोपित किया गया।

21 अक्टूबर 2021 को डॉ. सुमीत शाह जी की टीम ने पित्ताशय निकालने की मुख्य सर्जरी की। डॉ. सुमीत सर के अनुभव और कौशल से लैप्रोस्कोपिक सर्जरी से ही काम बन गया! हां, तकलीफ़ बहुत हुई और एलर्जी फिर शुरू हो गई!
डॉ. सर ने आश्वस्त किया कि सब ठीक है और धीरे-धीरे बेहतर होता जाएगा। चार सप्ताह बाद स्टेंट निकलवाने आइएगा!

अगले चार सप्ताह के दौरान स्वयं डॉ. सुमीत सर अम्मी की कुशलता का समाचार लेते रहे, हौसला और मार्गदर्शन देते रहे!

20 नवंबर 2021 को हम पुनः PSRI पहुंचे। डॉ. सुमीत सर ने जांच की, सब आशानुरूप पाया! और डॉ. नृपेन सर की टीम ने प्राथमिकता देते हुए स्टेंट निकाला। (इस बार बहुत पीड़ा हुई क्योंकि अम्मी पीड़ा सहती रहीं और यह संकेत नहीं किया कि एनेस्थीसिया का पूरा प्रभाव नहीं हुआ है!)

हम लोग अम्मी के हौसले के तो हमेशा ही क़ायल रहे हैं.
